Arnold Maley was born in Covington, TN, 1897.
He was office manager of many circuses and partner with Floyd King in the King Bros Circus.
In 1934 Maley married famed circus aerialist Esma Wilson.
In 1935 Jess Adkins and Zack Terrell hired Maley, along with Floyd King to assist in the organization of the Cole Bros. Circus.
In the 1950s Arnold Maley and Floyd King formed a partnership and took out the King Bros. Circus. The King Bros. went bankrupt resulting in Esma and Arnold loosing their home to pay off outstanding debts.
Esma and Arnold formed a new show using salvaged King Bros. equipment, working under the title the "Esma Maley Circus". The circus opened in Stroudsburg, PA., Aug. 18 1956 the circus operated less than a month before becoming stranded in Penns Grove, NJ.
Maley was hired by Bob Snowden as office manager for Snowden's 1961 version of the King Bros. Circus. After the purchase of the King Bros. by the "Acme Circus Operating Corporation", he was move to the company's larger Clyde Beatty Cole Bros. Circus, where he served until his retirement in 1975.
Esma Maley died in 1966.
Maley retired to Mount Dora, Florida where he died on Sept. 15 1978. |
